Costa Rica travels, six for the price of one

Darren had a good suggestion, which was to link to all the Costa Rica entries in one place so it's easier to refer to & read. Here you go:

BTW, anybody have a good solution for grinding coffee when you don't have (and don't want to buy) a grinder? I brought home what I thought was a bag of ground coffee, but it turned out to be beans... I don't drink coffee often enough to justify buying a grinder (I picked up a $4.99 Melitta filter set to make the coffee!) but I would really like to try these beans out.

I've heard Starbucks will grind them for you. Don't know if they charge a fee, and I haven't tried it myself. I have also been in that situation. My beans just languished in the freezer until I moved. Perhaps they are still there ...

You may also be able to use a supermarket grinder. Might have to be sneaky about it though.

Perhaps you could put them in the blender, and try a few pulses to bust 'em up?

That'd be a great idea if I had a blender... ;)

I bet if I ask around enough I'll find a friend with a coffee grinder. Although the idea of going into Starbucks and saying "I don't want to buy YOUR coffee - here, grind mine" is slightly appealing...

You do have a cuisinart- I bet it would work waaaay better than a blender for grinding beans! Don't forget your instructional video!

maybe you solved your coffee bean problem... if not, buy a grinder at London Drugs... use and return... they seem to have a no questions asked return policy... ask them before you but it... you could say it makes too much noise (it will !!!) if they ask you why you're retuning it...

Actually, I realized that my parents have a coffee grinder, and borrowed that. I think I'll only grind a chunk of the beans for starters, since I drink so little coffee, and borrow it again when I run out of grounds. Unfortunately the little Melitta filter doesn't really do this coffee justice - maybe I'll invest in one of those little Bodum thingies after all...

Really sorry, but new comments have been disabled because the spammers have ruined it for everyone. I don't maintain this blog any more and almost all the comments I get are people trying to sneak in links to their products. If you really genuinely have something you need to say to me personally, email me at kirsten --AT-- crowstoburnaby dot com.
